Janella is from Lima, Peru and moved to Vancouver, Canada in 2018 to complete an undergraduate degree in Applied Biology at the University of British Columbia. Her main research experiences lie in mammalian synthetic biology and immunotherapeutics: she has worked on synthetic tracking of cellular identity in stem cell communication with Dr. Nika Shakiba, and in therapeutic characterization of anti-cancer antibodies both with Dr. Kelly McNagny and at a biopharmaceutical company. During her rotation, she’s excited to explore the intersection of immune engineering and cancer-oriented medicine. Outside of the lab, Janella loves hiking, camping, and experimenting with baking.
