Our Team

Daniel is the first postdoc to join the Hernandez-Lopez lab! He is a Peruvian physician who got interested in doing experiments in the lab and moved to Switzerland for continuing his training. First, he worked in the lab of Prof. Federica Sallusto, where he learnt about T cells and obtained his master’s degree. Then, he joined the newly formed lab of Prof. Emma Slack in ETH Zurich as a doctoral student, where he developed new tools for deciphering the interaction between gut bacteria and host’s metabolism and immunity. Now, he moved to Stanford University to engineer a new generation of immunotherapy combining synthetic biology in bacteria and T cells.

In his free time, Daniel enjoys reading historical non-fiction and manga, watching series and movies, and going out for dinner in a good restaurant.
